September Feature Teacher: Mr. DeWaal

This month we got the chance to talk with one of our newest teachers at CCHS, Mr. DeWaal. Although Mr. DeWaal has only been teaching here for two semesters, he has enjoyed watching this year’s freshman conquer swing dancing in his P.E. one class. Also, he has enjoyed getting to know the students and staff at CCHS. Mr. DeWaal was notified of this job opening by our very own Mrs. Boender, who went to school with Mr. DeWaal while he was earning his bachelor’s degree at Calvin College. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he went on to earn his Masters Degree at Western Michigan University. Before Mr. DeWaal was in college, he attended high school at Eastern Christian in New Jersey. He was working as a grocery store cashier.

Although Mr. DeWaal is a pretty open book, we may not have expected that looking back at his high school years, he wishes he would have participated in a play. His advice for our seniors is to get to know as many people as you can, and, for everyone else, he recommends that we try as many new things as possible, maybe even a school play!
